The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Pensioners Club has issued a firm disclaimer clarifying its position on recent media publications concerning pension matters and national policy issues. Emphasizing their unwavering focus on constructive engagement and the welfare of their members, the Club’s leadership made clear that it remains apolitical and dedicated to safeguarding its integrity.

In a statement signed by Patrick I. C. Anene, National President, and Jiya D. Tsado, General Secretary, the Club addressed a recent publication attributed to a separate group called “Pensioners of the Central Bank of Nigeria.” This other body had appealed to the federal government to take urgent action on a longstanding pension dispute and referenced the government’s successful resolution of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike as a model for addressing their grievances.

While commending President Bola Tinubu’s political will demonstrated in the ASUU agreement, the CBN Pensioners Club clarified that the statements emerging from the aforementioned group were not authorized or endorsed by their executive leadership.

The disclaimer reads in part:

“The claims made in the publication attributed to certain individuals do not represent the views or official stance of the CBN Pensioners Club. The persons named as authors are not executive members and lack any mandate to speak for the Club. We strongly oppose any attempts to conflate unrelated agitations or misrepresent our position on matters of national policy or pension negotiations. This statement is issued to protect the unity, credibility, and integrity of the Central Bank of Nigeria Pensioners Club.”

The Club reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing pensioners’ welfare through appropriate, official channels and constructive dialogue with all relevant stakeholders, while maintaining an apolitical stance to preserve the trust and confidence of its members and the general public.
