The United States is actively preparing for the possible deployment of ground forces into Iran, according to a CBS News report citing Pentagon sources.

Senior military officials have reportedly drawn up detailed operational plans and submitted formal requests outlining how such a mission could unfold—should President Donald Trump give the green light.

Preparations go beyond combat strategy, including contingency plans for detaining Iranian soldiers and paramilitary fighters, as well as determining where prisoners of war would be held.

Sources say forces earmarked for potential deployment include the US Army’s Immediate Response Force from the 82nd Airborne Division, alongside approximately 5,000 Marines from the 11th and 31st Marine Expeditionary Units, already positioning in the Middle East.

The developments signal a significant escalation in readiness amid rising tensions.
