Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, has called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire LGA. The incident happened on May 15.

He made the appeal in a broadcast. It came after he received the rescued pupils and their teachers at his office in Ibadan, the state capital. That meeting took place on Monday.

Makinde said the “circumstances surrounding this incident are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent scrutiny”.
