Benue Assembly Speaker Aondona Dajoh Resigns

​Makurdi, Nigeria— The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from his position, effective today, August 24, 2025.

​Dajoh’s resignation was announced in a letter he personally signed, citing his decision as being “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.” The letter, which was titled “Resignation as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly,” was made public on Sunday.

​“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, August 24, 2025,” the letter stated. “This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals.”

​A legislator representing the Gboko West State Constituency, Dajoh affirmed his commitment to his role as a lawmaker. “I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency,” he added.

​The Benue State House of Assembly is expected to follow its established legislative procedures to elect a new speaker to fill the vacancy. Details regarding a successor have not yet been released.
