Former Big Brother Naija contestant Adekunle Olopade has thanked the Lagos State Police Command’s Complaint Response Unit after officers he accused of assault and unlawful detention were identified and disciplined following an internal investigation.
Adekunle first went public with a harrowing account of what he described as being “kidnapped, harassed and handcuffed” by police during a late-night drive, saying the incident left him traumatised and shaken.
Announcing the development on his X account, he said he had been in contact with the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area J Command, Elemoro, Ibeju-Lekki, ACP Oluyemisi Ojo, who led the probe that located the officers involved. “Justice has been served!” Adekunle wrote, adding that the disciplinary action had lifted a heavy emotional burden.
Adekunle urged Nigerians to report incidents of police harassment and to gather as much evidence as possible when doing so. “The Lagos State Complaint Response Unit works, and their job is to ensure the safety of the citizens while also sanitising the system of the bad officers,” he told followers.
The Police Complaint Response Unit’s public posts indicate the command opened an inquiry after Adekunle’s complaint, and internal records show officers were disciplined and that steps were taken to address his allegations. The unit’s ongoing work aims to improve public trust by responding to complaints and holding erring personnel to account.
