Former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on federal authorities and the Kaduna State government to immediately release former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, condemning what he described as his prolonged detention ahead of the Eid Kabir celebrations.

In a strongly worded statement, Atiku expressed concern over El-Rufai’s continued detention at a time when Muslims across Nigeria are preparing to mark one of Islam’s most sacred festivals.

The former vice-president said the development raises serious questions about justice, fairness and respect for fundamental rights, urging authorities to act swiftly in the spirit of the festive season.

Atiku further appealed for restraint and adherence to the rule of law, warning against actions capable of deepening political tensions or undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.

The call adds to growing political attention surrounding El-Rufai’s detention, with observers closely watching the response of both federal and state authorities in the coming days.
