The African Democratic Congress ( fresh challenges as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insists the party has not fully complied with regulatory requirements for the formal recognition of Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
INEC stated that until the party completes the necessary processes, all official documents and communications signed by the duo remain invalid.
INEC’s Position
Speaking to *The Guardian INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, through his Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said:
“The ADC is aware of the outstanding requirements. They recently visited the Commission, and we clearly outlined the issues. Their spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, who was part of the delegation, should brief the public on the matter.”
When asked about potential implications for ADC candidates in upcoming elections, Oyekanmi expressed optimism:
“We believe the party will comply. Once they do, there will be no further obstacles.”
Outstanding Requirements
Though INEC did not specify the exact gaps, *The Guardian* learned that the ADC must submit verified signatures of its newly appointed leaders, along with constitutional resolutions affirming their appointments, as mandated by electoral guidelines.
ADC’s Response
ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, attributed the delay to “administrative processes,” confirming that the party submitted the required documents last Thursday.
“We now have clarity and have made the necessary submissions. We expect the matter to be resolved within the coming week,” he said.
The party has also raised concerns over alleged attempts by unnamed actors to undermine its growth ahead of the 2027 general elections and other off-cycle polls.
