Atalanta’s coach, Ivan Jurić, will evaluate the fitness of Nigeria international Ademola Lookman as the club considers reintegrating him into the squad for their upcoming Serie A match against Lecce on Sunday. Lookman has not played for Atalanta this season following a fallout linked to a failed summer transfer move to Inter Milan.
Despite his club absence since May, Lookman appeared physically fit during Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, though lack of match sharpness was apparent. Following a turbulent period featuring strikes, individual training, and disciplinary actions by the club, Lookman recently returned to the Atalanta training base in Bergamo after international duty.
Coach Jurić and his staff will use Friday’s training session to determine whether Lookman can rejoin full team training and if he will be considered for selection against Lecce. His potential debut comes amid efforts to repair relations after his transfer saga and poor communication with the club.
Lookman, 27, remains an important figure for Atalanta, recently being named in the squad for the UEFA Champions League campaign. The upcoming fixtures, including a Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain, could see his competitive return if his fitness and form meet team requirements.
