The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Chairman Adolphus Wabara, is set to convene an emergency meeting on Wednesday. The meeting follows a landmark judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday that nullified the party’s national convention.
The appellate court invalidated the convention, which was held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, ruling that the party acted improperly. The court found that the PDP (Turaki Faction) proceeded with the convention despite a subsisting order from the Federal High Court requiring specific conditions to be met first.
In a formal notice issued on Tuesday, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara confirmed that the meeting will take place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja at 2:00 p.m.
Wabara emphasized the legitimacy of the current BoT, stating it was constituted in line with a Federal High Court ruling that was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal. He warned party members to disregard any other notices calling for a BoT meeting.
“Only duly notified members of the Board of Trustees will be accredited for this meeting,” Wabara stated. “Non-members are advised to stay away from the secretariat premises.”
The court’s decision has drawn mixed reactions from key stakeholders within the party.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, welcomed the judgment, describing it as a “victory for the rule of law.” He urged party members to set aside personal ambitions, cease all litigation, and focus on reconciliation. Wike cautioned that an appeal to the Supreme Court could be detrimental to the party’s stability, particularly with national primaries scheduled for April and May.
However, the factional National Working Committee (NWC) led by Tanimu Turaki has rejected the ruling. In a statement released on Monday by its spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, the faction signaled its intention to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
“The battle is not over,” the statement read. “It is imperative that the apex court provides a conclusive and definitive adjudication on this matter to ensure lasting clarity and justice for our party.”
The upcoming BoT meeting is expected to chart a course for the party amidst the escalating internal crisis.
