The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru Yilwatda, has said the ruling party’s expanding influence across the country is driven by public acceptance, bold economic reforms and inclusive governance, rather than the defection of governors alone.
Yilwatda stated that while recent defections into the APC have attracted attention, they do not fully explain the party’s growing strength. According to him, Nigerians are increasingly aligning with the APC because they believe in its reform agenda and capacity to deliver effective governance.
He explained that the economic policies being implemented by the administration, though demanding, are aimed at laying a sustainable foundation for long-term growth, stability and shared prosperity. These reforms, he added, are gradually restoring confidence in government and the ruling party.
The APC scribe also emphasised the party’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that efforts are being made to accommodate diverse interests and ensure that no section of the country feels marginalised.
“Our strength is rooted in the acceptance of the people,” Yilwatda said. “When citizens see sincerity in leadership, consistency in reforms and a genuine effort to carry everyone along, political support naturally follows.”
He maintained that the APC remains focused on consolidating its policies, strengthening internal democracy and delivering dividends of governance, rather than merely counting high-profile defections.
Yilwatda urged party members to remain disciplined and responsive to the needs of Nigerians, stressing that sustained public trust—not political realignments—will determine the APC’s long-term success.
