Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed that it will retain its current zoning arrangement for positions in its powerful National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the party’s 2026 National Convention.

In a statement issued from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, APC spokesman Felix Morka said the existing formula allocating NWC positions across states and geopolitical zones would remain unchanged as preparations intensify for the convention.

The clarification, the party said, was intended to guide aspirants and ensure orderliness as the internal electoral process gathers momentum.

“The existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee positions across states within the geo-political zones remains valid and applicable to the upcoming National Convention,” Morka said.

The zoning structure is detailed in the party’s published schedule for the 2026 nationwide congresses, national convention and related activities.

Party officials say the decision is aimed at maintaining stability within the ruling party while providing clear guidelines for members seeking national offices.

The APC also urged aspirants to strictly comply with the zoning formula when obtaining and submitting their Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

“Accordingly, aspirants are advised to be strictly guided by the existing zoning arrangement,” the statement added.

The National Convention is expected to reshape the leadership of the APC’s National Working Committee — the party’s highest administrative organ responsible for directing its affairs between conventions.
