Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a powerful screening committee to vet incumbent governors seeking re-election as well as aspirants eyeing Senate seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee will be chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, while the National Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, will serve as secretary. Other members are drawn from the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), underscoring the significance of the exercise within the party’s internal power structure.

According to the schedule released by the party, screening for incumbent governors seeking another term, alongside governorship hopefuls pursuing Senate ambitions, will take place from May 8 to May 9, 2026, at the Plateau State Governors Lodge.

Meanwhile, screening for other governorship aspirants is slated for May 9 to May 10, 2026, at the NWC Hall of the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The development signals the formal intensification of political manoeuvring within the APC as the party moves to consolidate its ranks and prepare for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 electoral cycle.
