Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the conclusion of its nationwide primary elections marks a major step in strengthening internal democracy and transparency within the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In a statement issued on Saturday, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, described the presidential primary election as a “defining moment” for the party, following a nationwide voting exercise involving President Bola Tinubu and aspirant Stanley Osifo.

According to Yilwatda, the process spanned wards, local government areas, and state levels before culminating in national collation, with the exercise broadcast live on television and online platforms to ensure openness and credibility.

“The active participation of representatives of both aspirants, including raising concerns and correcting mistakes where necessary, reflects the openness, fairness, and democratic values within the APC,” the statement read.

The APC leadership said the live transmission of the exercise was aimed at boosting public confidence in the party’s internal processes while reinforcing accountability during the primaries.

The party added that the conduct of the elections demonstrates its commitment to transparent leadership selection and democratic engagement among party members nationwide.
