Agboola Ajayi, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, has officially withdrawn his lawsuit at the Supreme Court challenging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s election victory. In a letter to the Chief Registrar of the apex court,
Ajayi stated, “After careful deliberation, we have reached a consensus that the appeal should be withdrawn, and I’m by this letter, so do.”
Ajayi, who also served as deputy governor, expressed his commitment to good governance and peaceful coexistence, adding, “I remain dedicated to contributing positively to the State and National development.” He extended his best wishes to Governor Aiyedatiwa, affirming his support for the current administration.

The legal challenge previously sought to nullify Aiyedatiwa’s November 16, 2024 electoral win and questioned the legitimacy of Deputy Governor Olayide Owolabi Adelami based on alleged discrepancies related to his name change. However, the Court of Appeal in Akure had dismissed the case, ruling that Ajayi lacked the legal standing to pursue it and that the suit was filed beyond the legally allowed period.
The court further ordered Ajayi to pay N2 million in costs to each of the respondents. With the withdrawal, the dispute over the 2024 Ondo State governorship election now appears conclusively settled.
