Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke says he has directed the state’s Attorney-General to withdraw the legal action filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank accounts.

Mr Adeleke disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television shortly after he was declared the winner of the 15 August governorship election in Osun State.

The governor said the decision was part of steps being taken following his victory at the polls.

The Osun State Government had instituted legal proceedings against the EFCC after the anti-graft agency froze some of its accounts, a move that triggered a dispute between the two institutions.

Mr Adeleke has previously criticised the EFCC’s action, maintaining that the affected accounts belonged to the state government and were being used for official purposes.

The governor’s latest directive signals a possible de-escalation of the dispute between the Osun government and the anti-corruption agency.

Mr Adeleke was declared winner of the governorship election after securing the highest number of votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His victory gives him another term in office as governor of the south-western state.
