Leke Abejide, House of Representatives member and African Democratic Congress (ADC) stalwart, says his party has no path to victory in the next presidential poll.
Appearing on Politics Today, Abejide claimed the odds are stacked against any challenger, especially with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—whom he calls “a master of the game”—running the show.
“Is it easy to defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a master of the game who won even when he was not in power, not to talk of now that he is in office?” he asked.
He brushed off talk of an opposition coalition, arguing that pooling tickets won’t change the maths.
“Nobody wants to waste time in an election. Something that cannot work, why must we put our hands into it? This coalition cannot work,” he said.
Though elected on the ADC platform, Abejide admitted he leans heavily on All Progressives Congress (APC) contacts to get things done in the National Assembly.
“I can’t work alone. I need people to work with, and those I can work with are in the APC,” he explained, adding that he won’t ditch his “brothers” over party labels.
He conceded his “heart is in both APC and ADC,” insisting that straddling camps is routine in Nigerian politics.
