Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has alleged that political detractors are sponsoring insecurity to distract President Bola Tinubu and tarnish his administration’s image.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign flag-off for Local Government Council elections in Edo South, Okpebholo claimed the recent spike in crime is a deliberate ploy by the opposition.

“They can even kidnap all of us—yes, but there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” the governor stated. “What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Is it by kidnapping children that you intend to govern? If there is no one left to lead, who will you govern? They should give us peace so we can lead effectively.”

Okpebholo argued that promoting instability would not help the opposition secure seats in the National Assembly or the Presidency. He maintained that President Tinubu has outperformed his predecessors, noting that the benefits of the fuel subsidy removal are already visible through various developmental projects across Edo State.

The governor congratulated the party’s candidates, stating that their success in the upcoming council polls would pave the way for delivering 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Also speaking at the event, Edo APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe described the party as the only viable choice for the state. He urged candidates to replicate the governor’s developmental strides in their respective local government areas.

The event’s highlight was the official unveiling of the Edo South candidates, including Senatorial candidate Ogbeide Ihama, Oredo Federal Constituency candidate Dr. Paddy Iyamu, and Ovia Federal Constituency candidate Omorede Igbinedion.
