As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stands tall as a testament to unity, safety, and security, according to the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike. Speaking to the residents in his Independence Day message,

Wike highlighted Abuja as one of the country’s safest cities, praising the joint efforts of the government and its citizens in maintaining peace.

Wike stressed that Abuja’s peace is a result of a partnership between the FCT Administration and law enforcement agencies, coupled with the unwavering commitment of residents to a secure environment. “Despite the challenges facing other parts of the nation, Abuja has remained an exemplary model of peace and harmony, with residents actively promoting coexistence,” Wike remarked.

This collaboration between the government and the people has helped Abuja stay calm, with Wike acknowledging the role of vigilant citizens who consistently report suspicious activities. He emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation and urged residents to continue supporting the administration’s efforts to uphold law and order.

The minister further credited President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for fostering a wave of development and security initiatives in the FCT. “Under this agenda, the administration has reconstructed schools, enhanced healthcare facilities, improved infrastructure, empowered women and youth, and supported agriculture,” Wike noted. He believes these initiatives are not only strengthening the economy of Abuja but also enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

Looking ahead to the upcoming area council elections in February 2026, Wike called on the citizens to maintain Abuja’s reputation for peace. “Let us continue to engage in issues-based campaigns, vote responsibly, and ensure that we elect leaders who possess the vision and capability to attract further development,” he urged.

In his closing remarks, Wike emphasized that despite the numerous challenges faced by Nigeria, Abuja’s exemplary security record proves that when both the government and citizens collaborate, progress is achievable.

“As we mark 65 years of nationhood, let us look forward with renewed hope. The FCT will remain a symbol of our unity and resilience, and it will continue to be one of the safest places to call home in Nigeria,” Wike concluded.
