Kannywood actress and political figure Fati Muhammad has explained why she became disenchanted with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying what separated her from him was what she described as “lies and broken promises.”

Fati, who said she had been involved with Atiku politically since 2007, made the remarks while reflecting on her past relationship with the former vice president.

According to her, her long association with Atiku gave her enough familiarity with his political style to question some of his promises.

She specifically recalled Atiku’s promise concerning the restoration of fuel subsidy, saying she immediately dismissed the claim because, in her words, she knew him well.

“Since 2007, I have been with Atiku in politics, and lies and broken promises have been what separated me from him,” Fati said.

“That is why, when Atiku said he would bring back fuel subsidy in Nigeria, I immediately said, ‘Wallahi, he is lying; he cannot do it,’ because I know who he is.”

Fati’s comments come amid renewed political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. She has previously been publicly associated with Atiku’s political movement; in 2017, reports identified her as the women’s director of an Atiku-linked foundation in the North-West.

The actress has, however, recently attracted attention over her political shift, with reports on October 6, 2026, saying she publicly urged her supporters to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Her latest remarks have therefore added another dimension to the evolving political positions of prominent Kannywood personalities ahead of the 2027 elections.
