Former Adamawa State Governor, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging his support for the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Bindow formally re-registered as an APC member in his ward in Mubi, Adamawa State, on Sunday, where he was welcomed by party officials, supporters, political associates, friends and family members.
The former governor said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates and close confidants, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
He also disclosed that he recently met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the encounter as cordial and memorable. According to him, the president expressed happiness over his decision to return to the APC.
Mr Bindow said his return was guided by his commitment to party discipline and his desire to contribute to the party’s growth rather than pursue personal political ambitions.
He subsequently endorsed APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, urging support for President Tinubu at the federal level and the party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa, Ahmad Tijjani Galadima, alongside other APC candidates.
The former governor said his return was intended to strengthen unity within the party and contribute to its electoral success.
“I am back to the APC not to divide, but to contribute; not to fight, but to build; and above all, to work with the party and its candidates towards victory,” he said.
Mr Bindow had previously left the APC and later joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under which he had been involved in preparations for the 2027 Adamawa governorship race.
His return to the APC comes as political parties intensify efforts to consolidate their support bases ahead of the 2027 elections, with Adamawa expected to be a closely watched battleground.
The development also follows Vice-President Shettima’s earlier indication in June that Mr Bindow was on his way back to the APC after the two held discussions on politics, security, governance and other issues of common interest.
