The Federal Government has commissioned a 3MW solar hybrid power project designed to provide more reliable electricity to about 40,000 students and 3,500 members of staff.
The project is part of efforts to improve access to stable and sustainable electricity within educational institutions, while reducing reliance on conventional power sources.
Officials said the solar hybrid system is expected to strengthen power supply for teaching, research, administration and other essential activities across the institution.
The project combines solar generation with other power infrastructure to provide a more dependable electricity supply, particularly during periods of disruption to the national grid.
With tens of thousands of students and staff expected to benefit, the initiative is also aimed at supporting a more conducive learning and working environment.
The commissioning marks another step in the government’s broader push to expand renewable energy and improve electricity access in public institutions.
