Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has intensified the political rhetoric ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, warning President Bola Tinubu that he would seek the attention of United States President Donald Trump if the electoral process is compromised.
The award-winning singer, who has been actively campaigning for the re-election of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, made the remark while expressing concerns over the credibility of the forthcoming governorship poll.
Davido, a prominent supporter of Governor Adeleke’s second-term bid, stressed the importance of a free, fair and transparent election, insisting that the will of the people must be respected. He warned against any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the poll, saying he would not hesitate to draw international attention to developments in the state should the election fail to meet democratic standards.
The singer’s comments come amid heightened political tension in Osun, where campaigns have gathered momentum ahead of the August governorship election. In recent months, Davido has taken an increasingly visible role in the state’s political landscape, mobilising support for Governor Adeleke while repeatedly urging political actors to allow voters—not violence or electoral malpractice—to determine the outcome of the election.
