Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, has been elected Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly’s Fifth Committee, one of the organisation’s most influential bodies responsible for budgetary, financial and administrative matters.
Ibrahim’s election places Nigeria at the helm of the committee tasked with overseeing the UN’s regular budget, peacekeeping expenditures, human resources management and the assessment of member states’ contributions.
The Fifth Committee serves as the principal platform through which the UN General Assembly examines and approves the organisation’s financial and administrative policies, making it central to the functioning of the global body.
The development is being viewed as a significant diplomatic milestone for Nigeria, reflecting the country’s growing influence within multilateral institutions and its continued engagement in international governance.
