A legal practitioner has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of carrying out what he described as a selective investigation, while questioning the agency’s reported restriction placed on an account belonging to the Osun State Government.
The lawyer argued that the anti-graft commission’s actions raise concerns about fairness, transparency and consistency in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. He questioned the basis for the reported restriction, insisting that law enforcement agencies must operate within the confines of the law and avoid actions capable of creating the impression of bias or political targeting.
According to the lawyer, investigations by anti-corruption agencies should be guided solely by evidence and due process, rather than selective enforcement. He maintained that public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption campaign depends on impartiality and equal treatment of all individuals and institutions.
The remarks come amid growing public interest in the circumstances surrounding the reported restriction on the Osun State Government’s account, with calls from various quarters for clarity over the EFCC’s actions.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has yet to publicly respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
