The Budget Office of the Federation has told Nigeria’s House of Representatives that no funds were released or spent for the controversial Presidential Economic Advisory Council and Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, despite budgetary allocations for the bodies.
The disclosure was made during a hearing before the House of Representatives, where lawmakers sought explanations over appropriations made for the two councils, which have attracted public scrutiny.
Officials of the Budget Office stated that although funds were approved in the national budget, no disbursement was made and no expenditure was recorded for either council.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over transparency and accountability in the management of public finances, with lawmakers intensifying oversight of government spending.
The House is expected to continue its investigation to determine why the appropriated funds remained untouched and whether due process was followed in the budgeting and implementation of the allocations.
