Germany has donated two operational vehicles to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a move aimed at strengthening border security, enhancing migration management and deepening bilateral cooperation between both countries.
The vehicles, donated by the German Federal Police, were formally handed over at the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters in Abuja during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both nations.
Leading the German delegation, Markus Sasse, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, said the donation underscores Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to improve border security and migration governance.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resource Management, A. Ayeni, expressed appreciation to the German Government for the gesture.
He said the vehicles would significantly improve the Service’s operational mobility, strengthen rapid response capabilities and enhance the effective management of Nigeria’s borders.
“The donation will boost our field operations and further support our mandate of safeguarding the nation’s borders while promoting effective migration management,” he said.
The Nigeria Immigration Service described the donation as another milestone in the longstanding partnership between the Service and the German Federal Police, noting that both countries remain committed to improving security cooperation through capacity building and operational support.
The latest intervention is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Immigration Service to modernise its operations and enhance surveillance across the country’s borders amid evolving security challenges.
