Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on the National Assembly to summon the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation over what he described as conflicting accounts regarding the bank details of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said the contradictory explanations from the CBN and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) have raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability within President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that the inconsistencies have fuelled a credibility crisis and called for an immediate legislative investigation to establish the facts.
He urged lawmakers to invite the heads of both institutions to explain the discrepancies surrounding the PFIPC accounts, insisting that Nigerians deserve clear answers on the management of public financial institutions.
Atiku maintained that accountability and openness are essential to restoring public confidence in government institutions, stressing that the National Assembly has a constitutional responsibility to exercise oversight over public finances.
The former vice-president said a transparent probe would help clarify the conflicting narratives and reinforce public trust in the country’s financial governance.
