Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that there are renewed efforts to prevent the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from participating in the country’s 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed he had received “credible information” indicating that political and legal manoeuvres were being orchestrated to undermine the opposition party ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to the statement, the alleged moves are aimed at weakening the ADC’s ability to contest the elections, although no specific individuals or institutions were named.

The former vice president, who is the ADC’s presidential candidate, warned against actions that could threaten Nigeria’s democratic process, urging relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

The allegation comes as political alignments and preparations for the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum, with opposition parties seeking to strengthen their positions against the ruling establishment.

No official response had been issued by the authorities or the electoral commission at the time of publication.
