A Federal High Court in Katsina State has sentenced a woman to death by hanging after convicting her of terrorism-related offences in a case prosecuted by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).
The convict, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit terrorism as well as aiding and abetting terrorist activities.
According to the DSS, Mukhtar was arrested on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park in Katsina while allegedly attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to Ado, a notorious bandit kingpin operating in the Dunburum Forest of neighbouring Zamfara State.
The prosecution argued that the ammunition was intended to support armed bandits responsible for a wave of violent attacks across northwestern Nigeria. The court upheld the charges and sentenced Mukhtar to death by hanging, marking another high-profile conviction in the country’s ongoing crackdown on terrorism financing and logistics networks.
The verdict underscores intensified efforts by Nigerian authorities to dismantle supply chains sustaining armed groups operating across the region.
