Adeniyi Adeyemi, Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), has appealed to the House of Representatives to grant him the necessary administrative clearance to enable him appear before its investigative panel probing the alleged PFIPC scandal.
Adeyemi, who is currently in custody, made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday through his legal team, insisting that he should be given the opportunity to present his own account before lawmakers conclude their investigation.
According to the statement, the PFIPC chief argued that he was being unfairly singled out and portrayed as the sole culprit in the matter, maintaining that he was being made a “scapegoat” despite not having the opportunity to defend himself.
He further warned that any report or recommendation arising from the House investigation without his testimony would be incomplete and lacking in credibility.
“Any legislative report on the PFIPC matter without my testimony is fundamentally flawed,” the statement quoted Adeyemi as saying.
The embattled official urged the House of Representatives to facilitate his appearance before the panel, stressing that due process and the principles of fair hearing require that all relevant parties be given an opportunity to testify.
The House of Representatives is investigating allegations surrounding the operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, although lawmakers are yet to conclude their findings.
Adeyemi’s request comes amid growing public interest in the investigation, with observers closely watching whether the legislative panel will grant his request to testify before submitting its final report.
