Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised First Lady Remi Tinubu for participating in public celebrations while dozens of abducted schoolchildren remain unaccounted for, describing the development as insensitive to the pain of affected families.

In a strongly worded statement, Atiku argued that a mother should not celebrate while children across the country are still missing and their families continue to endure uncertainty and anguish. He urged the government to prioritise the safe return of all kidnapped children and address the worsening security crisis.

The former presidential candidate said the plight of abducted students should remain a national emergency, stressing that public officials must demonstrate empathy and solidarity with grieving families during such difficult times.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over recurring mass abductions in parts of northern Nigeria, with calls mounting for stronger measures to protect schools and secure the release of victims.
