Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has opted to represent himself in an ongoing legal battle involving President Bola Tinubu, following the withdrawal of his legal team over what was described as persistent “maltreatment” during court proceedings.

At the latest hearing, Sowore urged Justice Musa Umar to step aside from the case, arguing that recent developments had raised concerns about the impartiality and fairness of the proceedings.

The request came shortly after his lawyers announced their withdrawal, citing circumstances they claimed made it difficult to continue effectively representing their client.

Sowore maintained that his application for the judge’s recusal was necessary to preserve public confidence in the judicial process, while insisting that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.

The court is expected to determine the application before further proceedings in the case.
