Adebayo Shittu, the former Honorable Minister for Communications, has openly criticized the leadership of the All Progressives Congress regarding the conduct of the party’s recent primary elections. The chieftain expressed deep dissatisfaction over the widespread irregularities, structural confusion, and administrative shenanigans that currently threaten the internal cohesion of the ruling party across Oyo State.
According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of SYMFONI on Sunday May 24, 2026, while discussing the nationwide backlash following the controversial exercises, he stated, “I was deceived and thank God I did not pay 50 million Naira only for another person to be anointed, because why would a party wait for people to pay before announcing an anointed candidate.”
The legal practitioner explained that a fellow politician misled him into stepping down from his federal university appointment based on a false presidential directive. Shittu stated that certain misguided elements and impostors manufactured a crisis within Oyo State by falsely claiming that President Bola Tinubu had officially anointed a specific governorship candidate for the ticket.
The foundation member of the party warned that these undemocratic impositions and the lack of transparency would severely damage the political fortunes of the ruling party in the upcoming general elections. He maintained that political stakeholders cannot force aggrieved members to vote during the main election if the initial internal processes remain opaque and unfair.
In his concluding remarks, the ex-minister announced his decision to step away from active partisan politics to focus entirely on religious devotion through Islamic Dawah. He urged the national leadership of the party to dispassionately investigate all pending petitions, swallow its pride, and quickly rectify the injustices to ensure genuine peace returns.
