Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has said he will not “worship any human being,” in comments widely interpreted as a sharp response to political tensions involving his predecessor and former ally, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara made the remarks while addressing the delicate balance of gratitude and political allegiance in the state’s leadership dynamics, stressing that while he acknowledges the support he has received from influential figures, reverence belongs to God alone.

“I can never worship any human being. Helping me does not make you God,” he said, adding that individuals are only instruments through which divine purpose may be fulfilled.

The governor argued that political gratitude should not be confused with unquestioning loyalty or personal veneration, insisting that leadership assistance should remain in the realm of service rather than elevation.

“Only God deserves worship,” he said, noting that circumstances and opportunities can come through unexpected channels, including adversaries.

“If that is my sin, let me answer it,” Fubara added, underscoring his position amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
