President Bola Tinubu met with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, on Thursday evening at his official residence in the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which took place around 6:00 pm, was confirmed in a statement and photographs released by the State House media office.

The visit comes approximately one year after the two leaders last held discussions at the Villa. During their previous engagement on March 29, 2024, they focused on deepening bilateral ties in agriculture, food security, energy, logistics, and trade.

Following that meeting, President Tinubu visited St. Lucia in late June 2024 for talks with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders—a historic first for a Nigerian president.

While Thursday’s agenda was not disclosed in the brief statement from the presidency, Prime Minister Drew’s previous visit underscored a strong interest in forging closer ties between the Caribbean and Nigeria. He had described Africa as “the motherland,” emphasized his government’s focus on food sovereignty, and noted ongoing discussions with Nigerian firms to explore collaborative opportunities across the Caribbean region.

President Tinubu had characterized the engagement as a key opportunity for Africa to expand its global connections.

Both nations maintain diplomatic relations as members of the Commonwealth of Nations, the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States. Neither country currently has a resident embassy in the other’s capital; diplomatic accreditation is facilitated through multilateral missions in New York and London.

According to UN COMTRADE data, bilateral trade between Nigeria and St. Kitts and Nevis is valued at less than $500,000 annually.
