Court in Abuja has granted bail to the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in the sum of N500 million.
Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite also extended the N500 million bail bond each to Malami’s son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife, Bashir Asabe.
As part of the bail conditions, each defendant must provide two sureties in the same amount. The sureties are required to own landed property within the Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarimpa districts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the former AGF on charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N8.7 billion (N8,713,923,759.49). Additionally, the commission has linked properties valued at N212 billion to the former minister.
All defendants entered a plea of “not guilty” to the charges.
The defendants had been in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre since December 30, 2025, following a court order for their remand pending the determination of their bail application.
