Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has again stirred debate over Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, insisting that Peter Obi, not President Bola Tinubu, won the poll — a claim consistently disputed by the electoral commission and courts.
In a renewed statement, Baba-Ahmed declared that “silence will not erase the truth,” arguing that revisiting the election remains crucial for Nigeria’s democratic integrity.
“Peter Obi won Nigeria’s last presidential election. Silence will not erase the truth,” he said, doubling down on a position he has maintained since the conclusion of the vote.
Baba-Ahmed’s comments echo the Labour Party’s long-standing rejection of the official results, which declared Tinubu the winner. Subsequent challenges filed by the party were dismissed by both the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court, which upheld Tinubu’s victory.
Despite the legal setbacks, Baba-Ahmed has continued to assert that the electoral process was flawed and that public silence should not be mistaken for acceptance.
His latest statement comes amid ongoing national conversations about electoral reforms, public trust in institutions, and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.
