Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that no individual or political bloc can issue him directives regarding political developments in Rivers State, as tensions continue to simmer within the state’s ruling structure.

Speaking during a media interaction on Sunday, Wike dismissed claims that he was being influenced or directed by external forces in the ongoing political standoff with the Rivers State government.

“Nobody will give me instructions as far as Rivers is concerned,” he said, reaffirming his influence and long-standing political stake in the state.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key figure in national politics, has been at the centre of a power struggle with his successor, a dispute that has dominated the political landscape and sparked broader debates about party loyalty and governance.

The FCT Minister maintained that his political involvement in the state is driven by personal commitment and not external pressure.

“I know what I stand for, and I know my contributions. Nobody can dictate to me on matters concerning Rivers,” he added.

His remarks come as factions within the state’s political arena continue to trade accusations, deepening uncertainty and raising questions about the long-term stability of the region’s political structure.

Neither the Rivers State Government nor other major political actors involved in the dispute had issued fresh responses at the time of this report.
