Nigeria’s former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has met with the chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, fuelling fresh speculation about political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Details of the meeting, first reported by Daily Post, indicate that Wike hosted the party leaders in what sources described as a “closed-door engagement” focused on the state’s political future. The discussions come at a time of heightened tension in Rivers, where shifting alliances have reshaped the state’s political landscape.
While neither Wike nor the party chairmen have publicly disclosed the agenda, political observers say the meeting could signal attempts to ease tensions between rival camps or form new strategic blocs ahead of 2027.
Wike, a former Rivers governor and a key political player both in the state and nationally, has recently faced criticism from some within the PDP, while also maintaining influential ties across party lines. His engagement with both PDP and APC leaders has therefore intensified questions about his next political move.
The Rivers political crisis—marked by clashes between factions loyal to Wike and those aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara—has been one of Nigeria’s most closely watched state-level power tussles.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, analysts say Wike’s latest meeting may be part of broader manoeuvres aimed at consolidating influence or redefining alliances.
No official statement has yet been issued by any of the parties involved.
