OBSERVERS TIMES can exclusively report that a significant source of the recent political challenges facing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, appears to stem from his alleged lobbying efforts within the upper echelons of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to sources familiar with the matter, Minister Wike advocated for the 2027 APC governorship ticket in Imo State to be awarded to Senator Samuel Anyanwu, a current member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the source who confirmed to OBSERVERS TIMES, Wike’s reported argument was that Senator Anyanwu, having been a central figure in the internal challenges of the PDP at the national level, deserved a gubernatorial nomination as a reward for his efforts, rather than the ambassadorial appointment he was previously offered and declined.
This clandestine move is reported to have directly challenged the political authority of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, a powerful two-term APC governor. Governor Uzodimma, who would naturally be expected to influence the selection of his successor, was alerted to these behind-the-scenes negotiations, OBSERVERS TIMES.
In response, Governor Uzodimma is said to have swiftly mobilized his considerable influence within the APC. This triggered a coordinated pushback from powerful party stakeholders aimed at countering Minister Wike’s influence and neutralizing his political maneuvers. The effectiveness of this counter-strategy has significantly weakened Wike’s position in the ongoing power dynamics.
The ramifications of this internal APC conflict are now extending beyond the party. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been engaged in a protracted political struggle with his predecessor, Minister Wike, is finding encouragement in this development. Governor Uzodimma’s stand against Wike is perceived as strengthening Fubara’s political standing.
This shifting landscape was evidenced by Governor Fubara’s recent high-profile invitation to a meeting of the APC Governors’ Forum, signaling a potential realignment of political alliances and a significant emboldenment of Governor Fubara’s faction.
