Nigerian award-winning singer, Adekunle Gold, has spoken candidly about the importance of family, declaring that being a responsible husband and father remains his greatest life goal, above fame or career success.
The Afro-pop star, during an interview on the NotJustOk podcast, revealed that his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Adejare, are his biggest motivation and the reason he strives daily to be a better man.
“All I wanted is to do more for my own daughter because I can’t afford to bring her into the kind of life I grew up living. It has to be way better. My family is my centre. I can afford to be a failed musician, not a failed father or man. That’s not negotiable,” Adekunle Gold said.
The “Party No Dey Stop” crooner, who has continued to earn acclaim for his blend of Afrobeats and highlife, explained that fatherhood had changed his outlook on life and redefined his sense of purpose.
He revealed that his song, “My Love Is The Same”, from his latest album, was written as a heartfelt tribute to his wife and daughter, capturing the depth of his love for them and his promise to be present in their lives.
“I’ve seen what it means to struggle, and I promised myself that my child won’t go through that. Every day, I’m reminded that love is not just what I say on stage it’s what I do when no one is watching,” he said.
Adekunle Gold described his family as “the centre of his world,” adding that his greatest achievement is not in sold-out shows or chart-topping hits but in building a home filled with love, peace, and faith.
Recently, the singer was honoured in his community after a street was named after him — Adekunle Kosoko Street in recognition of his musical impact and contribution to the creative industry.
Sharing the moment on social media, he wrote:
“Adekunle Kosoko Street. The city that raised me now carries my name. Thank you, Lord, for my many blessings.”
The unveiling ceremony saw Adekunle Gold joined by his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Deja, in a touching video that captured the proud moment.
Despite his achievements, Adekunle Gold has not been without controversy. A TikTok user recently accused the singer of being stingy, alleging that he ignored him during a chance meeting at a shopping mall. The singer, however, did not respond publicly to the claim, a move many of his fans praised as maturity and restraint.
Adekunle Gold, whose real name is Adekunle Kosoko, continues to solidify his place as one of Nigeria’s most respected artistes, blending deep lyricism with soulful sounds. His commitment to his family, both in private and public life, has also endeared him to many as a model of responsible fatherhood in the entertainment industry.
