Ahead of the 2026 governorship primaries, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has taken decisive steps to ensure peace and discipline within the party, introducing a stringent new code of conduct for all governorship hopefuls.
This action comes in response to escalating tensions, verbal attacks, and divisions among supporters of different aspirants.
At a recent meeting in Osogbo, the State Working Committee (SWC), led by Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, announced measures aimed at restoring order and unity. One of the most significant moves was the prohibition of party officials, including reinstated council chairmen and councillors, from acting as campaign coordinators for any aspirant. The committee expressed concern that these activities were causing unnecessary conflicts within the party, further straining relations among key members.
The SWC emphasized that the use of abusive or derogatory language during the campaigns would not be tolerated. “Any breach of this code would lead to sanctions as outlined in the party’s constitution,” the committee declared.
Furthermore, the party’s leadership made it clear that they would take a firm stance against any aspirant, supporter, or leader who spread harmful messages or published derogatory content about fellow aspirants, whether through print, broadcast, or social media.

In addition to addressing personal attacks, the new code also seeks to prevent the exploitation of party leaders’ names for endorsements, ensuring that aspirants do not falsely claim support from prominent figures within the party. The committee also raised concerns over the circulation of unverified claims about financial backing, urging all involved to avoid spreading such divisive rumors.
As part of the new regulations, the SWC directed an investigation into a programme that reportedly involves generating 1,000 names from each ward through an NGO. The committee aims to verify the legitimacy of this initiative to ensure it aligns with the party’s objectives and maintains transparency in all operations.
Chairman Lawal reminded members that the party’s ultimate aim is to win the 2026 governorship election, stressing the need for unity and collaboration.
“It is needless to turn fellow members of the same party into arch-enemies because of a primary election,” he emphasized.
