The Idahosa family has given a new lease of life to their historic country home in Ehor, transforming the century-old property into the Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College of Nursing Sciences.
The initiative was announced on Sunday evening by the family’s representative, Dr Hilton Idahosa. According to him, the move honours the legacy of the late Rt. Rev. Johnson Idahosa, the first Bini Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Benin, and reflects his lifelong commitment to education as a force for societal transformation.
“Bishop Idahosa believed in the transformative power of education. We are bringing that vision into the 21st century,” the family said in a statement.
The new college is set to position Ehor Township as a centre of excellence in healthcare training. It boasts advanced visual and physical simulation laboratories designed to give students practical, hands-on experience. In addition, the college plans to integrate the expertise of Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora, adopting international best practices to raise the standard of nursing education in the country.
“The Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College will not only honour a towering figure in Nigeria’s Anglican history, but also equip a new generation to carry forward his legacy, saving lives, serving communities, and lifting the standard of healthcare across the nation,” the statement added.
The family expressed confidence that the institution will produce skilled nurses capable of improving healthcare delivery across Nigeria while preserving the legacy of one of Edo State’s most celebrated sons.
