Reports and discussions have emerged regarding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, including its Governors’ Forum, is reportedly reaching out to former members who have left the party, including Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Peter Obi, who was formerly a member of the PDP and even served as the party’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019, left the party in 2022 to join the Labour Party.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, currently led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, has been actively involved in discussions and meetings aimed at resolving internal crises and strengthening the party’s position.
While there have been media reports and statements from PDP figures indicating their desire to have Peter Obi return, he is still officially a member of the Labour Party and has announced his intention to run for president again in 2027 under that platform.
The ongoing talks and outreach efforts by the PDP are part of a larger political realignment as parties prepare for the next election cycle.
