The media office of former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to address its shortcomings and resorting to personal attacks against critics.
In a statement released on Saturday, Tambuwal asserted that no principled politician would consider joining the APC, claiming that those defecting to the ruling party are primarily motivated by “stomach infrastructure.” He emphasized that the ongoing economic crisis has rendered APC membership unappealing.
In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka dismissed Tambuwal’s comments, labeling him a “notorious and vainglorious party defector.” Morka accused the former governor of hypocrisy, suggesting that his own political shifts were driven by self-interest.
On Monday, Tambuwal’s media team issued a statement condemning Morka’s remarks as an attempt to silence dissent and distract the public from the escalating economic and security challenges facing the nation.
“Instead of tackling critical issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a clear indication of its desperation and leadership failure,” the statement asserted.
Tambuwal’s team further accused the APC of employing coercion, enticement, and intimidation to stifle opposition voices and steer Nigeria toward a one-party system.
“The APC’s characterization of recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians enduring unprecedented hardship,” the statement continued.
It also criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, highlighting rising inflation, worsening insecurity, and increasing unemployment that have led to business closures and widespread poverty.
The statement concluded by defending Tambuwal’s legacy, underscoring his role as a founding member of the APC and his “unassailable record of selflessness and patriotism.”
