The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has positioned itself as the sole credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, dismissing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as lacking political relevance.

In a statement released Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, responded to recent criticisms from ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasizing that the PDP’s priority remains focused squarely on unseating the APC and tackling Nigeria’s pressing challenges—rather than engaging in distractions posed by smaller parties.

“The PDP, as the leading opposition party commanding the respect, loyalty, and solidarity of the overwhelming majority of Nigerians, will not descend to join issues with the ADC or any other opposition party in the country,” Ologunagba asserted.

He highlighted the PDP’s extensive national reach, grassroots support, and political capacity as key strengths positioning it to mount a formidable challenge against the APC in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing concerns about recent defections from the party, Ologunagba reaffirmed that the PDP still enjoys robust popular backing, stating, “Nigerians, who are the real organic strength of the PDP, are still standing shoulder to shoulder with our party.”

The party also pointed to its track record in governance and a strong roster of presidential hopefuls as proof of its readiness to lead Nigeria beyond 2027, directly challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In addition, the PDP expressed willingness to collaborate with like-minded individuals and groups united by a shared mission to rescue Nigeria from APC’s rule. “As the platform of choice for all Nigerians, the PDP remains open to working with other well-meaning citizens and groups committed to the collective aspiration of rescuing our nation from the APC,” the statement said.

The party disclosed that preparations are in full swing for its National Convention, slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, reaffirming its dedication to internal unity and effective national leadership.

Concluding, Ologunagba dismissed what he described as “baseless attacks” from APC sympathizers, reiterating the party’s unshaken focus on its mission: “Our party is working assiduously towards a successful National Convention and will not be distracted by baseless attacks from known agents of the APC.”
