Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has today moved to reshape the political landscape of his administration with the appointment of a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff, in a high‑stakes restart of the state executive team.

In a Special Government Announcement issued on Thursday and signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma was named the new SSG, while Barrister Sunny Ewule will serve as the Chief of Staff at Government House in Port Harcourt. Both appointees are expected to be sworn in at the Executive Council Chamber at 2:00 p.m. local time.

The appointments take effect immediately, according to the statement, but officials offered no explanation for the removal of their predecessors, raising questions about the deeper political currents at play.

Wokoma replaces Benibo Anabraba as SSG, and Ewule succeeds Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff, whose role had been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks amid tussles within the state’s ruling elite.

Political analysts say the changes come against the backdrop of a broader reconciliation between Governor Fubara and his erstwhile ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike — a dynamic that has repeatedly roiled Rivers politics. The upheaval follows federal intervention to halt impeachment proceedings against Fubara late last year, highlighting persistent rivalries within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor’s decision to recalibrate his inner circle is likely to be seen as an effort to consolidate power and reassert administrative control as Rivers State heads into 2026 amid ongoing political contestation.
