President Bola Tinubu has strongly denied accusations that he is responsible for the deaths of opposition figures in Nigeria, insisting that he is not armed and has no involvement in violent actions.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Tinubu addressed growing claims circulating in political circles and social media, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated. “I’m accused of killing opposition in Nigeria, but I have no gun. These allegations are baseless,” he said.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions ahead of upcoming elections, with opposition parties expressing concern over reports of targeted attacks and political intimidation. Tinubu urged Nigerians to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unverified claims that could destabilize the nation.
Political analysts note that such statements are part of a broader pattern of denial in Nigerian politics, where allegations often escalate during critical electoral periods. Despite the controversies, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to peaceful democratic processes and the rule of law.
The opposition has yet to respond publicly to the president’s latest denial, leaving a tense political climate as Nigeria approaches a critical electoral season.
