Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration’s refusal to negotiate with armed groups, insisting that dialogue is not an option despite the continued captivity of about 50 community elders reportedly abducted by bandits.
The governor’s position comes amid growing concern over the fate of the victims, whose abduction has heightened fears across affected communities and renewed calls for urgent action to tackle the state’s persistent security crisis.
Lawal maintained that his government remains committed to restoring peace through decisive security measures rather than engaging in negotiations with criminal groups, arguing that such talks could embolden further acts of violence and kidnapping.
The development underscores the ongoing insecurity in Zamfara, where repeated attacks by armed gangs have displaced thousands of residents, disrupted livelihoods and left many communities living under the constant threat of violence.
