Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), took aim at Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman Christopher Maikalangu for his remarks regarding the provision of security vehicles for local law enforcement. Wike’s comments came during a ceremony on Thursday where he presented 50 operational vehicles to various security agencies in the capital.
Maikalangu had previously stated that he lacked the resources and capacity to supply security vehicles, which he described as a significant limitation. He noted that multiple requests had been made for vehicle support, but he was unable to meet those demands.
Wike did not hold back in his criticism, labeling Maikalangu’s admission as “embarrassing.” He remarked, “It is troubling to hear a council chairman publicly declare he has no capacity to provide vehicles for security agencies, especially when he serves as the chief security officer of his local government. Every time you collect revenue, where does that money go?”
The Minister further emphasized the importance of local leadership in ensuring community safety, recalling his own tenure as a council chairman when he actively built police stations and provided vehicles and resources for law enforcement. “Security is a collective responsibility. If you claim to have no capacity, then what is your role as council chairman?” Wike challenged.
He concluded with a pointed remark about the upcoming elections, stating, “Thank you for revealing your limitations. We will see what happens in the next election. You have admitted it, not me. And fortunately, this is being broadcast live.”
